5 Tips to Stay Cool This Summer

The hottest part of the summer is upon us, which means it’s time to batten down the hatches, call for maintenance on your AC, and hope everything runs smoothly. One of the worst fears that homeowners in our area have is the sudden breakdown of an air conditioner that otherwise was running fine. If this ever happens to you, just know that we can be there quickly for AC repair in Bluffton, SC.

However, once you call us, it still doesn’t mean that your AC will magically turn on. We need to actually diagnose and fix the problem at hand. That means it’s up to you to make sure your home stays cool, comfortable, and that your family doesn’t get too exposed to the sun, humidity, and heat.

Here are some tips to ensure you don’t overheat this summer while waiting for repairs.

Wear Loose and Comfortable Clothes

If you’re wearing sweatpants and a sweatshirt on the hottest day of the year, there’s not much we can do (or that an air conditioner can do) to keep your cool and comfortable. In fact, that can be dangerous if your body doesn’t have proper airflow or the ability to ventilate heat.

Wear loose and comfortable shorts, tanktops or t-shirts, and things that will give circulating air a chance to cool your body down and evaporate sweat.

Stay Hydrated

This is a very important point. Your body gets rid of heat by sweating and letting the sweat evaporate. If you don’t replenish your body’s water, then you’re going to run into some serious health issues. Make sure you and your family stay well-hydrated and healthy!

Try mixing some cool refreshments! Things like lemonade can be a great way to stay hydrated while also tasting a yummy treat!

Avoid Sunlight

Sunlight is actually one of the most warming parts of a summer’s day. It can come in through the windows of your home and cause things to heat up beyond what you’re like. This is the perfect time to use curtains, shades, and other things to block out the sunlight that might infiltrate your home.

Sure, sunlight brings an aesthetically pleasing appearance to the inside of your house, but without air conditioning to help lower the temperature, you’ll see things get too hot very quickly. Keep sunlight out until you get your AC fixed!

Go Swimming

Water is one of the oldest and simplest ways to stay cool and comfortable on a hot summer’s day. Try jumping into the water at your local beach, pool, or lake, and have a good time with some floaties.

Just remember to always put on sunscreen so you don’t end up dealing with the effects of too much sunlight exposure.

Utilize Fans

Ceiling fans and other box fans are a great tool for homeowners that are waiting for AC repairs. They help lower the temperature by a few degrees while allowing us to eliminate heat by facilitating evaporation of sweat on our skin. Try experimenting with different fans in certain rooms in order to get the right amount of airflow.
