Evaluating the State of Your Ductless System

Monday, March 6th, 2023

Ductless units function much differently from other heating systems in our area. You can’t just ask your neighbor or friend if you’ve got a problem with your ductless heat pump, because they might give you tips that are only applicable for their gas furnace or centralized heat pump. For instance, you’ll never detect when gas is leaking from the system because a ductless heat pump doesn’t use natural gas. It’s obvious, but you need a reliable ductless resource.

That’s what this blog is. Think of it like a friend at a party, or your neighbor who you’re just saying a quick “hello” to. We won’t be able to give you a serious diagnosis, only a professional technician surveying your system can do that. But we can give you a general idea as to whether you require ductless heat pump repairs in Savannah, GA, or if you’re in good shape.

Parts that May Need Replacement in a Heat Pump

Thursday, January 15th, 2015

Any heating and air conditioning system contains a significant number of components which all must be in nearly top working order so that the system can run effectively and efficiently. When a smaller part of your heating system breaks, it’s often easier and more cost effective for a technician to replace it, rather than to tinker with the mechanism for hours before finding the exact source of the trouble. While repairs are often enough to keep a system up and running, sometimes replacing a part is the way to go. Read about some of the most commonly replaced parts during heat pump repair.

  • Blower Motor: The blower motor is responsible for operating the fan that moves air into the system and delivers it into the living space. In some cases, a faulty blower motor merely needs to be lubricated to keep the fan turning. But sometimes the motor windings short out, and it will need replacement. Professionals have the tools needed to measure the amp draw and decide whether replacement is necessary.
  • Reversing Valve: The reversing valve is the unit that allows refrigerant to reverse when switching from heating to cooling mode or vice versa. So when you experience trouble going from one mode to another, it may be due to this piece. The reversing valve may run into trouble either because of electrical issues or mechanical issues. In any case, it’s important to have a professional choose the right part for replacement and line it up and replace it correctly.
  • Check Valve: The check valve helps refrigerant to redirect when it changes direction so that it doesn’t flow through the valves that help with the cooling cycle when it’s in heating mode. Refrigerant should not, for example, flow through the expansion valve when it’s in heating mode. Therefore, a failing check valve may also be the reason that only one mode does not work, and it will require replacement.
  • Refrigerant: Finally, you may need to “replace” refrigerant if any leaks out from the system. Only certain technicians are certified to handle refrigerant, so charging the system is always a job for professionals.
